One thing is certain about this year’s Kentucky Derby. When they sang “the sun shines bright on my Old Kentucky Home”, the sun was definitely not shining. In fact, before the Race for the Roses ever started, 3 inches of rain had fallen on Churchill Downs. This certainly did not deter the favorite because Justify came out of the gate and never looked back. The winning jockey was Mike Smith and the winning trainer was Bob Baffert.I did not have a bet on this year’s race. That was good, because I would have bet on Mendelssohn. He was bumped coming out of the gate and may still be running. The final results showed he was last by 73 links. It is now time to look forward to the next 2 legs of The Triple Crown.
