Are You a Bad Enough Dude For Land Rover’s Toughest Phone Ever?Nokia, Vodafone To Install 4G on the Moon Stay on target At Mobile World Congress tech journalists from around the globe fly to Barcelona to check out the latest upcoming innovations in the smartphone space. But for most folks, the choice between new phones basically boils down to the new iPhone or the new Samsung Galaxy, the standard bearers for their respective operating systems iOS and Android. We’ve already had a few months to get used to the iPhone X. And whatever is next for Apple’s flagship phone is still months away. So at MWC 2018, we learned more about the Samsung Galaxy S9 launching later this month. Digital Trends recently did a rundown of both phone’s specs, and they’re closer than you may think despite the price difference. Some parts of each phone are just too different to directly compare, like the S9’s Snapdragon 845 processor vs the iPhone X’s A11 chip. Plus you could just prefer Android 8.0 over iOS 11 and vice versa. But other aspects of each phone can be compared with hard numbers. Both sport similar 4G wireless features. Both start at 64GB of storage. Both have similarly impressive dual 12-megapixel cameras as well as face-scanning security features. But on paper, many parts of the S9 seem even better despite costing $200 less than the iPhone X. It has 4GB of RAM instead of three, a fingerprint sensor and iris-scanning on top of face scanning, a MicroSD card port and a headphone jack(!), a lighter body but higher-resolution 2,960 x 1,440 5.8-inch screen, and a bigger 3,000mAh battery with fast charging. So why does Digital Trends ultimately side with the $999 iPhone X vs the $720 Samsung Galaxy S9? Are they just drinking the Apple-flavored Kool-Aid? Ultimately, the iPhone X provided better performance in a similarly premium body. But once both phones are available customers can make the choice for themselves. If the Samsung Galaxy S9 isn’t your thing, check out our list of other promising upcoming Android phones. And for more MWC coverage visit our sister site PC Mag.Let us know what you like about Geek by taking our survey.
