Wellington wrestlers finish 6th in 13-team home tournament; Aaron Fair wins at 195

first_imgAaron Fairby Tracy McCue, Sumner Newscow — Wichita Northwest won the Wellington Invitational with 156 points while the home team finished seventh with 68 points in the 13-team tournament held here Saturday.Wellington’s Aaron Fair won the 195 pound weight division with a pin at the 2:00 mark over Dylan Jorns of Mulvane in the championship round. Fair would go 4-0 for the day.The varsity Crusaders overall was short-handed. Wellington head wrestling coach Mitch McComb said he moved all his varsity freshman in the lower weight divisions to the junior varsity side. Skyler Struble at 152 was sick while Skylar Brand at 220 was taking ACTs. Nevertheless, Wellington finished in the top tier of a tournament mostly made up of 6A and 5A schools. In the end, Wellington cumulative had the third most pins in the tournament. Of the eight wrestlers who wrestled, five of them place.Aaron Fair of Wellington is in process of throwing this Wichita Trinity opponent on his back for a pin.Here were the other Wellington placers and results of their finals matches:•145 — Graysen DeJarnett, fourth. Josh Long, Clearwater won by decision over DeJarnett 5-2 in third-place finals.•152 — Zach Bodkins, fifth. Bodkins won by pin over Cole Conover of Winfield, :42 for fifth.•160 — Joey Haydon third. Haydon won by decision over Adam Baker of Wichita Northwest, 6-1 for third.•170 — Vincent Ast, sixth. Jake Dusenbury, Andover won by tech fall over Ast, 17-2 in fifth-place match.Wellington wrestlers will have a busy week. The varsity is traveling to Augusta for a double dual on Thursday with Rose Hill and Wichita Trinity participating. Wellington then travels to Marion to participate in a double dual.The Crusader junior varsity will then participate in the Rose Hill tournament on Saturday.Follow us on Twitter.
