first_imgDONEGAL’S Colm McFadden was named RTE’s Man of the Match after his superb display against Down at Breffni Park today….just four days after the birth of his son Matthew. The St Michael’s man scored some wonderful points in the Ulster semi-final win over the Mournemen. The RTE panel including Pat Spillane nominated Colm, Anthony Thompson and Neil McGee on their shortlist. But it was the St Eunan’s College teacher who came out on top.“It was a very tough game,” said McFadden.“Every time we pushed ahead, Down came right back at us. They really put it up to us. We couldn’t shake them off.”And was he worried about missing today’s game? “Our new son Matthew arrived on Wednesday evening so it was a bit touch and go that he might come this weekend,” he said.“It’s been a good week all round.”And of course, that’s another nephew for a certain Uncle Jim.The RTE panel was drooling over the Donegal frontline of McFadden, Murphy and McBrearty.“Colm McFadden was by far the best player on the field,” said Spillane. “He was last year’s leading scorer. He is one of the most beautiful strikers of the long distance ball in the modern game or in any era,” said the Kerry legend.COLM McFADDEN NAMED MAN OF THE MATCH – AND SUPERDAD! was last modified: June 24th, 2013 by BrendaShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window)Tags:COLM McFADDEN NAMED MAN OF THE MATCH – AND SUPERDAD!last_img read more
